How Shredding Keeps the Planet Green

Paper and media shredding doesn’t just keep your identity safe, it also reduces emissions and waste. When we take your paper, once shredded it is bleached and pulped at a local recycling center. Afterward the paper is repurposed into products such as tissue, toilet paper, and paper towels. The same goes for media and E-Waste; after the shredding the pieces are recycled from scrap into new material. Our process prevents used paper and media immediately populating a landfill.

Even if you don’t have confidential information to destroy, shredding is the better alternative to throwing papers in the garbage because those old receipts, notes, and junk mail are recyclable.

We’ll demonstrate exactly how much Shred City saves when we recycle paper!

According to University of Southern Indiana:

Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

One Shred City mobile truck can hold up to 9,000 lbs of paper. Therefore, one of our trucks saves: 76.5 trees, 1,710 gals of oil, 13.5 cubic yards of landfill space, 18,000 kw of energy and 31,500 gals of water.

And that’s just one truck. In total, we have four mobile shredders. Each truck used to capacity saves 306 trees, 6,840 gallons of oil, 54 cubic yards of landfill space, 72,000 kw of energy, and 126,000 gallons of water. And that is four trucks filled in one day. Imagine how much gets saved after a week, a month, or even a year! We are making a difference.

Rather than shredding the paper yourself, trashing, or burning it (adding unnecessary CO2 into the air) bring your paper to Shred City and do your part to keep our planet green and healthy!
